Artist Blacksmiths Association SA

The Artist Blacksmiths Association South Australia was formed in 2008 to provide support, to further training, to share skills and provide communication and networking opportunities for our members and interstate colleagues.

A.B.A.S.A Inc currently has over 50 members ranging from beginners to very experienced blacksmiths, encouraging all ages 16 and over.

We welcome anyone interested in the craft of blacksmithing in all its forms, practising, learning and sharing knowledge. Please join us in promoting the art of the blacksmith and educating the public about our craft.

Blacksmithing Courses and Workshops

Come-n-Try Session

A 2 hour Come-n-Try session offers a unique opportunity to try your hand at blacksmithing. All materials and tools provided, Come-n-Try sessions run for 2 hours 10:00am – 12:00pm.

  • The first Saturday of the month.
  • The last Sunday of the month.

Basic Blacksmith Course

The Basic Blacksmith course runs over 6 nights with several courses available throughout the year. A condensed format over two consecutive Sundays is available for those who prefer.

General Forge Sessions

The Forge is open for general forging for all members each week on these days:

  • Tuesday: 10:00am – 3.30pm
  • Thursday: 6:30pm – 9:30pm
  • Saturday: 10:00am – 3.30pm
  • Last Sunday Doris Day: 10:00am – 3.30pm

The last Sunday of the month is dedicated to our female members as a ‘Blacksmith Doris Day’. Bring lunch to share and a project to work on!


Skills Workshops


Skills workshops for members run monthly, with demonstration and assistance through the forging process by an experienced Blacksmith. Past skills workshops have included making leaves, flowers, a troll cross, wizard head decoration and sword making. This is a great opportunity to further your skills as well as learn the equipment at the Forge.

General Forge Fee

A General Forge fee of $20 is charged per session, plus any materials if they are required to be purchased.

An ABASA pre-paid Workshop card can be purchased at a discount.
